Member of the Compass, Americas' first
Improvisational Theater: Chicago:

1956
Created my own Improvisational Theater "The Compass Players and then a monthly Repertory Theater,
The Crystal Palace Theater, both in St Louis:

1959
Wrote the book for and directed a cool Jazz musical
"The Nervous Set," on Broadway:

1960
Opened New York's first and most successful
Improvisational Theater, "The Premise." Political and social satire.
Big hit. Ran four years.
New York · Washington DC · London

1963
Wrote (with Buck Henry) and directed my First Film;
"The Troublemaker."
The Big Hit at the Venice Film Festival.
This I have to quote. "The Troublemaker is a combination of Voltaire, Brecht and the Marx Brothers."
From a French Critic who probably felt the same way about Jerry Lewis.

1964
Hello, Hollywood!

1967
Wrote and Directed "The President's Analyst."
A huge hit!
I was elevated to Hollywood's "A List"

1969
Disaster!
J. Edgar Hoover had "The President's Analyst" removed from the Theaters.

1969
Off the "A List"

1969-1974
Siberia
A bunch of not so terrific TV & Movies. Five interminable years.
Created the "Barney Miller" Television series. Wrote and directed the Pilot.

1975
"Barney Miller" was a hit.
Getaway money

1979
Goodbye, Hollywood !

1979 to ??
A LESSON LEARNED

1986
Hello Santa Fe!
Wrote some books for my own pleasure. Very Satisfying.

1995
I decided to be a Sculptor.
Paul Moore " May he dwell in Paradise with the Seventy Virginians forever"
became my teacher.
Since then I have been enjoying,
The Richest,
Most Profoundly Satisfying,
Creative experience of
My Whole Life.
